Pray with Nate Stephan...
I pray that your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding. For I want you to understand what really matters, so that you may live pure and blameless lives until the day of Christ’s return. May you always be filled with the fruit of your salvation—the righteous character produced in your life by Jesus Christ—for this will bring much glory and praise to God.
~ Philippians 1:9-11 (NLT)
This passage has been sticking with me for a very long time now. We’ve been going through the book of Philippians with the worship department and reading the rest of what Paul wrote through the lens of “what really matters” changes things.
Think about it for a moment. If we set our minds on what really matters, for example, my and your relationship with God, it changes how I’d listen when someone is talking with me…how I’d respond to a difficult situation…how I’d interact with others who’ve hurt me or whom I’ve hurt.
A good question I’m starting to ask myself is this: what matters most to Jesus in this instance? But remembering to do this isn’t easy. It’s a good thing to pray that God reminds us of what really matters most. I think that when we approach life from this kind of perspective, it helps us understand a little more of how God sees things.
Let’s pray today that God reminds us of what really matters, and that He can help us remember to keep that in our minds when we interact with others.
