Pray with Nate...
Dear friends, you always followed my instructions when I was with you. And now that I am away, it is even more important. Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.
~ Philippians 2:12-13 (NLT)
These are another couple of verses that have been on my mind for awhile. It’s a battle that happens on a regular basis to remember that God is working in me. Sometimes I can take salvation for granted, the fact that God went to such great lengths to make a relationship with Him possible. I don’t always remember how far He’s brought me. I don’t always remember what’s at stake when I sin.
Here Paul is trying to encourage us to show the world that salvation has results and that God is working in us. The salvation God extends to us came at the price of the life of His Son. Sin really made the cost high. But salvation through faith comes at a price too. We’ve been saved from sin, from our old way of living, from being stuck in a continuous cycle of making bad choices because Jesus took our punishment. He’s given us the opportunity to say “yes” to Him and “no” to sinning. Salvation should have visible results in the life of the Christian. …remember the cost…remember what’s at stake.
The neatest thing about this passage is the last sentence. God can give us the power AND even the desire to do what pleases Him. Honestly, I don’t ask for that power or desire enough. That’s what we should pray for every day!
Let’s pray together that God gives us the desire and power to do what pleases Him; that He will continue the good work He’s been doing in our lives; that we remember the cost for salvation and prove those results in the way we live.
