All heaven will praise your great wonders, Lord; myriads of angels will praise you for your faithfulness…Happy are those who hear the joyful call to worship, for they will walk in the light of your presence, Lord. They rejoice all day long in your wonderful reputation. They exult in your righteousness. You are their glorious strength. It pleases you to make us strong. Psalm 89:5, 15-17
This thought hit me the other day, then ran with me, and now that it’s been a few days, it has settled with me. The above scripture is just one of many that tells us how the earth and the heavens declare God’s glory. Louie Giglio has traveled with Passion conferences for years and put together several dvd’s displaying the wonders of God . God truly is amazing, and His creation praises Him from morning to night and over again. And that is what stopped me in my tracks.
I was finishing up my run, and on that downhill slope my head looked up to see Ole Faithful (Pikes Peak) shining brightly as the rising sun reflected off of every crevice in his shape. (There are days when I long for the lush green of my home in NC, but then there are those days when God shows me His glory and grandeur right where I’m at. I just can’t deny the goodness of this place and the greatness of our God.) In that moment of beholding, I was overcome with a desire. Jesus said if we are silent that the rocks will cry out, and I think it was on that morning run that I “heard” them louder than I heard myself. So I started to do the only thing I knew to do in that moment…I began to pray. (Prayer is my open door to “home.” I never knew where my home would be when I was younger, but now I know. It’s exactly where He and I meet. The door is always open, the Light always on, and a loving Father is always ready to commune.) This prayer was not for me alone, but for My Family: my brothers and sisters who are all called by His Name, with the same purpose as those who have gone before us and those who will follow. I leave you with it, and I pray that we will all come together to say, “I declare!” (A very southern saying;))
You left the glory of heaven to come down and meet with us…to save us…to draw us to Yourself…and to give us a voice to be heard from generation to generation, from now through all eternity. The birds and the flowers are beautiful, but you have loved us even greater. We are the desire of Your heart – the love of your life. We are what drove you to pursue us til death and what caused you to “kill” death with Your resurrection. Yet, it wasn’t me I heard praising you that morning; the rocks were crying out and the heavens were declaring beautifully Who You Are and I couldn’t help but wonder what and how my life was declaring. If we are more precious to You than the rest of creation – even those rocks and the heavens – why are they outshining us? Shouldn’t we be putting them to shame with the way we declare your glory?
That is my prayer. May Your Bride shine like the Bride of Heaven should; may she praise louder than the rocks and declare Your glory brighter than the heavens. I pray that those who look at the sunrise and sunset and wonder and the wonder of it all, will have their eyes drawn away from those lights to see Your Light shining ablaze in us – Your people! Let us put the heavens to shame with the way we declare Your glory! Let your people rise up out from under our bowls and be cities on hills – unashamed, unabashed, and unwilling to give up our Bright, Loud Praise to anyone or anything!
You are glorious!
I do declare!
