Hey church! I wanted to take a moment to personally invite you to my LifeGroup. We meet on Thursday nights at my house from about 6:30-8:00ish pm. Right now we’re going through an 8-week class called “Church History” and Barry Zimmerman is teaching us. We’re discovering what happened to the church from the beginning of it’s days with Jesus’ apostles until now.
Boy! The church sure did have it rough for the first couple hundred years. Rome was terrible to them! Even the Jews persecuted them. Some of the ways they tormented the church were so inhumane and sickening. From watching wild animals eat them in the Colosseum to dipping them in tar and setting them on fire to light the streets, there didn’t seem to be any depraved form of persecution they didn’t endure. However, it was in those times that the church grew the quickest. No matter how hard Rome and the Jews tried to stop the message of this saving grace and love of Jesus, they couldn’t even slow it down for a little bit. The accounts of Christians staring death down with the deep conviction of Jesus’ love were countless and amazing to hear about. They’ve set a testament of faith we all should strive for, a deep love for Jesus that can’t be affected by mockery, torment, or death. These guys were the real deal. I want to be too.
Come and try it out! We have this great class we’re going through, a great group of people to hang out with, and some delicious snacks to share. You can bring one too! Kids are more than welcome to come as well. If you need directions, send me an email and I’ll get them to you. Looking forward to seeing you there!
